| | The Board of Directors of the Stockton Youth Soccer Association is
excited to offer our players and coaches a unique Academy Training
Program for the 2010 season that is absolutely FREE to SYSA players and coaches.
We have partnered with UK Soccer to provide us with several elements of
a holistic training program for our players, coaches, and entire teams.
Our goals are to improve on the foundation of training that our players
receive, and to improve the overall education of our players and
coaches. In order for this to be a successful investment of league
resources, we need to have full engagement from our coaches and players.
We strongly believe that this is a wonderful opportunity for our league
members, and expect to see significant strides in the level of soccer
that our players, coaches, and teams can achieve. The elements of this
program include: team training days, player clinics, coaches camps,
season-long team training curriculum, and coaches access to over 1000
training tools to supplement their training curriculum. Again, the
entire program is FREE to the SYSA players and coaches, as the costs were covered via standard player registration fees.
Team Training Days: U8 to U19 Teams The format of the Team Training Academy will be to encourage teams
from an entire age group to come out for themed technical training
sessions that will occur over a 6 week period of time at the Stockton
Soccer Complex located at 10055 N. Highway 99 (on the west frontage road
between Morada Lane and Eight Mile Road). The Team Training Academy
will begin the week of August 8 and will go through the week of
September 12. The themed training sessions will be as follows: Week 1
(passing and receiving), Week
2 (dribbling and beating players), Week 3 (shooting), Week 4
(defending), Week 5 (advanced passing and control), and Week 6 (advanced
shooting). Only
SYSA teams that come with at least one coach will be able to
participate, and the coaches must actively participate in the training
of their team. Our coaches (and their players) that will listen to
the guidance of the UK instructors, and then each team will break away
and work on the topic, and then come back to the UK instructor for the
next training element. During the Team Training Academy days, the UK instructors will not work
with specific players, but rather they will guide the session and the
SYSA coaches will implement their instructions. All players must come
fully equipped for training, and therefore must bring shin guards, a
ball, and water. Coaches are encouraged to bring their coaches
equipment, including cones. The schedule for specific age groups is as
follows:
The set up for the sessions will be: - Monday 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM: Under 9 girls - Monday 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM: Under 10 girls - Tuesday 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM: Under 9 boys - Tuesday 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM: Under 10 boys & U19 girls (split this way due to the number of teams) - Wednesday 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM: Under 12 boys & Under 14 boys - Wednesday 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM: Under 12 girls & U14 girls (we expect that none of the three U19 girls will come though) - Thursday 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM: Under 8 boys - Thursday 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM: Under 8 girls
To
encourage maximum involvement in the Team Academy, the Junior and
Senior Recreational Soccer Coordinators have encouraged the recreational
coaches to schedule their training sessions to occur such that their
team can participate in and benefit from this FREE program.
Team Training Days: U4 to U7 Teams The
UK Team Training Academy is not formulated for working with teams in
the U4 to U7 age group. The SYSA Board of Directors is seeking
contributions from the competitive soccer teams in our Stockton Storm
Futbol Club to run a comparable Team Training Academy for our U4 to U7
teams. We currently have fields reserved on the following Friday's at
the Stockton Soccer Complex located at 10055 N. Highway 99 (on the west frontage road between Morada Lane and Eight Mile Road): 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM: U4 to U6 boys and girls - 0 PM - 8:00 PM: U7 boys and girls The tentative schedule is August 13, August 20, August 27, September 3, September 10, and September 17. Currently, we have the Storm FC competitive coaches committed to running the Academy on August 13 and August 27. However,
we are still seeking to lock in the full 6 weeks for training of our
younger age groups following the same themes as are being used for the
older age groups. Prior to coming to the complex for other dates
with your teams, coaches are encouraged to contact their age group
coordinator to confirm that the yet to be filled training sessions will
occur. The format of the training sessions will be similar to that
of the UK-lead Team Training Academy - only teams with their coaches are
allowed to participate, coaches must participate by leading their team
through the training elements, and all players must bring shin guards, a ball, and water; coaches should bring their coaches equipment. As
we understand that some players may miss a training session for one
reason or another, the Academy has Friday Player Clinics open to players
age U8 to U19, and does not require a coach to participate; note that
coaches are encouraged to participate since these sessions will not
always be identical to the theme or items covered in the Team Training
Academy sessions. There are four total Friday Player Clinics, scheduled from at the Stockton Soccer Complex located at 10055 N. Highway 99 - August 13: Goal keeper clinic - August 20: Foot skills, speed, and agility - August 27: Goal keeper clinic (reinforce the August 13 training) - September 3: Foot skills, speed, and agility ( reinforce the August 20 training All
players must come fully equipped for training, and therefore must bring
shin guards, a ball, and water. Goal keepers should bring their gloves. All
coaches realize that they do not know everything that there is to know
about the game of soccer. There are always additional tools that can be
added to their knowledge base to improve the overall quality of play
from their players, both as a team and as individual players. The UK
Academy was designed to encourage the coaches to not only be involved
with their team's training on the Team Training Academy days, but to
also provide coaches with clinics that are tailored to subjects specific
to their needs. There are three Coaches Clinics scheduled for the
Academy, as follows at the Stockton Soccer Complex located at 10055 N. Highway 99 - Sunday, August 8 from 4 PM - 7 PM: Coaching Individual Techniques - Friday, August 27 from 5 PM - 8 PM: Coaching in Small Sided Games -
Friday, August 17 from 5 PM - 8 PM: Theory, Systems of Play, and Game
Analysis - location likely to be the Commodore School Cafeteria Season Long Training Curriculum/Modules - Age Specific So
as to compliment all of the Training Academy elements that occur on the
soccer field, coaches no have access to season long team training
curriculum that lays out all of the essential elements of each practice
session. Each of the age appropriate season curricula are posted to the
right under related links. For each training session, coaches will go to
the webpage link on your age appropriate training curriculum and enter
the account name of "StocktonYSA". The password is protected and has
been given to each coach at the beginning of the season - contact your
age group coordinator if you have misplaced the password, as it will not
be posted on the SYSA website. Note that the U19 age group should use
the U12-U14 curricula and simply expand on the subject.
Additional Training Elements Should
a particular coach feel that an alternative is needed for any
particular training element in the Season Long Curricula, they have
access to over 1000 age appropriate training sessions by going to the UK
Soccer website (www.uksocca.com), selecting 'Online Curriculum' at the very bottom left hand corner of the web page,
select 'Login Now', entering the account name "StocktonYSA", then
entering their password, and then selecting the subject matter of
interest. |
