SYSA COACH CLINICS |
| |
|
The Stockton Youth Soccer Association and our Stockton Storm Futbol Club are dedicated to providing our youth soccer players with the best playing experience around. This includes having the players in an environment with educated coaches that can help the children develop their skills and tactical play. A cornerstone to our coaches educational requirements are mandatory coaching licenses through the California Youth Soccer Association curriculum. All coaches must have a minimum of a "F" license for U-4 to U-8 play, an "E" license for U-9 to U-19 play, and an "E/D" license for U-11 to U-19 play beginning in 2010. The "F" license provides 9 hours of education in fundamental skill development and management of team practice/training sessions, and primarily focuses on the 1st attacker/1st defender concepts. The "E" license provides 18 hours of education that builds on the "F" license by providing information on which provides an education in 2nd attacker and 2nd defender concepts. The "E/D" license provides approximately 30 hours of education building on the "F" and "E" license by advancing to 3rd attacker and 3rd defender concepts, as well as introductions to tactical systems of play. SYSA also typically provides Goalkeeper training courses, and encourages our coaches to obtain even more advanced licensing (e.g., State "D" and National "D" licenses). The fee charged to SYSA coaches for these courses is returned to the coaches following the completion of the course. Finally, any good soccer coach understands that this is just the beginning of their education and will seek out additional resources to bolster their knowledge and improve the skill level of their players.
SYSA is hosting its second and final series of the coaching clinics for the 2009/10 season at Hoover Elementary School located at 2900 Kirk Street in Stockton. The California Youth Soccer Association coaching clinics are being managed by the new SYSA Coaching Director, Chris Handsor (coachingdirector@stocktonyouthsoccer.org).
Coaching Clinic Schedule:
- Friday, August 21, 6 - 9 PM & Saturday, August 22, ~7 AM to 2 PM (time set by instructor on 8/21) - "F" Coaching Course

- Postponed to Spring 2010 (Friday, August 21, 6 - 9 PM; Saturday, August 22, ~7 AM to 2 PM; Sunday, August 23, ~7 AM to 2 PM; Saturday, August 29, ~7 AM to 2 PM) & Sunday, August 30, ~7 AM to 2 PM (Saturday and Sunday times set by instructor on 8/21 - "E/D" Coaching Course)
Coaches may not take multiple courses concurrently, and must have completed the previous course before proceeding to the next course (e.g., complete "F" before taking the "E").
SYSA coaches are required to submit a check to Chris Handsor for the cost of the course: $45 for the "F", $52 for the "E", and $115 for the "E/D". SYSA coaches will be given their check back upon completion of the courses. Coaches that do not attend their scheduled course will have their checks cashed to assist in covering the cost of the courses and facility (i.e., upwards of $1000 - $2000 dollars per course) and a replacement coach with a proper license will be solicited to take over the affected coach's team since SYSA policy mandates minimum license levels to support our player education/development objectives. We appreciate all of our coaching staff taking the efforts to continue their education so that our players receive the best possible training experience in the region.
